“There are days where I look at my children’s
homework assignments and just laugh, the
instructions say, ‘Have your parents (our homework),
due by (date).’ I laugh because I felt that I
graduated from college and would never again see
these instructions, but Mr. Goode’s assignment
reminds me of the African proverb, ‘It takes a
village to raise a child.’ IKA is more than learning
about defense and how the body moves; it is also
about the education of values. I believe the study
of ‘Powerful Words,’—words like empathy, tolerance,
and trust—is the most valuable tool my sons can
learn. With Mr. Goode’s assignment we, children and
parents, are reminded that our education and
responsibilities continue. I am glad that George has
the opportunity to improve his mind, body, and
character with the lessons and that I am able to
share in these experiences.” B. Burruss III
International Karate Academy has provided
leadership to our son in many critical areas:
self-discipline, respect for self and others,
scholastic and personal achievement, focus and
perseverance. Because of the extraordinary teaching
and caring approach given by the instructors, our
son has stayed with his goals and learned a great
deal about not only karate, but life itself. We are
forever grateful to International Karate Academy for
the positive influence it has had on our son.” B.

“During the past several years, I have been
pleased to be one of your students. When Seth became
interested in karate, I remember having met you and
having been impressed with the facilities, programs
and personnel you offer, and was happy to recommend
IKA as a good place for him to learn. Little did I
know that he would recruit me to join him in his
class.
I am glad he did so, because I have benefited in
many ways from my experiences from the school. The
exercise was great, and I will have a difficult time
finding an activity that will match that to
sparring. Come to think of it, at age 70, I may not
look for an activity that energetic. The discipline
that you teach young and old is also one of the
features of the school that has caused me to
recommend you to parents and grandparents who are
looking for a karate school for a young person. I
will continue to do so.
Finally, we all benefit from being around good
people. Working with others in Boy Scouts and church
work has demonstrated that to me. When at IKA, I was
with good people, and the experience was most
rewarding.
Thank you again for the experience. It has been a
wonderful journey. Achieving the Black Belt rank is
equivalent to having obtained the Eagle Scout rank.
It is an accomplishment that I will always remember
with a little pride and a lot of humility. J.
